Best time to Visit Mwanza | Mwanza Travel

Best time to Visit Mwanza: Your Tanzania expedition safari planning in Mwanza – Lake Victoria should consider the time of year that you strategize to visit. Two factors that change over the course of the year are the number of tourists and the weather conditions, both of which may be influenced by your personal preferences. During the low tourist season correlated to the wet spring season, there are not only fewer crowds, but you also have greater senses of isolation and personal connection with the landscape and the local peoples. Hotel prices are generally the same throughout the year with little or no variance.

The average temperature in Mwanza ranges from lows and highs of 66-80 F (19-27 C) depending on the month of travel. Humidity in town is averagely dry due to its altitude augmented with the cool-off from the lake breeze as most of the hot air moisture is limited to the forested regions in the outskirts of the town. During the dry season, the area has parched vegetation and the roads can be dusty. Despite this, temperatures are most comfortable from June through September and also October.

When the short and long rains respectively begin to come into the area in November and December and March through May, green grasses sprout from what seemed only arid land, and the area can be quite spectacular. If you choose to plan your adventure tour of East Africa during the rainy season, you may have some difficulty on walking and hiking excursions, as trails can be quite muddy, slippery, and your travel by vehicle may be more challenging on soiled roads.

January and February also sees sporadic rain bursts in its seemingly hot and humid months. Waters can be choppy too in the rains and not the appropriate time for Lake Victoria fishing expeditions with AfricanMecca unless you do not mind getting soaked. Some key natural events that occur in the outskirts of Mwanza are the blooming of the wildflowers like orchids and fireball lilies in November and the arrival of migratory birds in December. The avi-fauna typically remains in the area until February
